I was recently approached to provide event photography by Suzanne Page for a charity party she was hosting at Rosso in Manchester. The party took place on Ascot Ladies Day and all proceeds went to the Manchester Children’s Hospital. Outfits were spectacular and a good time seemed too be had by all. Guests had a three course lunch, some wine! and watched the racing projected onto a large screen at the front of the restaurant. Below are a selection of some of my favourite photos from the event. If you are hosting a similar party and wish us to attend please get in touch.

Manchester Sport Relief mile and more motion blur opportunites
March 21st, 2010As I was in Manchester city centre early this morning on some other business. I took the opportunity to watch participants in the 2010 Sport Relief Manchester mile. As part of a continuing theme I thought that I would experiment some more with motion blurs. This time I thought I would freeze the background and the stationary spectators and blur the runners and see what I thought of the effect.
Again for the technically minded, all shots were taken on a Nikon D700, with either a 20mm or a 35mm lens. Shutter speeds varied between 1/25 and 1/6 of a second. All shots were hand held although I did use barriers and the like for support. Comments welcome.
Pioneer Run 2010
March 16th, 2010Continuing with what seems to be a current theme of motion blurs, I took these shots of competitors in the 2010 Pioneer Motorcycle Run from London to Brighton on Sunday the 14th March 2010. The Pioneer Run starts at Epsom racecourse and ends on Madeira Drive Brighton seafront. The Event has been organised since 1930 by the Sunbeam Motorcycle Club.
All shots of the 2010 Pioneer Run were taken on a Nikon D700 with an 85mm, f1.4AF-D lens. As ever I am astounded by the focus tracking on the D700, and the creative possibilities that it provides. I particularly like the shots where only a small area of the rider is in focus and the rest is a blur and the feeling of speed that that imparts to the image. To take part in the 2010 Pioneer Run, as always the bikes had to be manufactured before 1915, and I like the shots which have a vintage feel, with the rider is dressed in period gear. Some of the period helmets would not appear to offer much protection so it is easy to see why some riders opt for the modern full face option.
If anyone is interested in buying prints of any of the images please get in touch. I can provide professionally printed 9″x 6″ prints in carboard strut mounts and larger prints on request. I work with professional framing suppliers, and so can provide large framed prints in some great contemporary styles of frames if desired (check out this links for a variety of frames, and here for some great large box frames and other ideas). Please get back to me if you are interested, with your requirements and I will give you some idea of prices.
Hastings for Tim’s 70th party
October 29th, 2009I have just returned from Hastings and have posted my photos from Tim’s 70th birthday party. Many thanks to A. Joan for organising such a great do, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
With the photos I tried to go for a mix of ambient and flash with the iso at 1600, I am quite pleased with the results, as I think they give a feel for the venue. I have posted the full gallery on Flickr follow the link. I also took quite a few shots at dusk aroound the old town which I will post later.
